REVIVAL

After years making pop and R&B, Harris J came home to the music he started with — songs of faith, sung plainly. He calls it a second chance.

The story

A second chance

Harris J’s first record, Salam, was released when he was eighteen. In the years that followed he made pop and R&B, released music through a major label, and went independent. By his own account in later interviews, he came close to leaving music altogether.

Pilgrimage and Ramadan changed the direction. Conversations with Maher Zain and Awakening’s Masood Curtis persuaded him there was still a place for him in faith-inspired music, and in March 2024 he returned to Awakening with “O Allah”.

Revival followed in August 2025: six songs, among them a reworking of “I Promise” from his debut, and “Qalbi Fil Madinah”, the duet with Maher Zain whose video has passed 140 million views. The video for “Hayati” was filmed in Granada, and the Andalusian architecture that frames it runs through the whole era’s imagery.

“That particular Umrah changed me for sure. It made me feel a lot more trust in Allah.”
